What it is

ASTM — Autonomous Spatial Telemetry Module

An integrated hardware/software prototype combining Raspberry Pi hardware, Python services, embedded sensors, TCP/JSON communication, PCB/system design, and an iPhone SwiftUI control/display application.

Problem / need

The operational or technical need

Create a platform-independent telemetry foundation that can combine onboard sensing, calibration, computation, device communication, and a mobile control/display interface as one system.

Solution

How the project addresses it

ASTM combines a Raspberry Pi service layer, Python, embedded sensor integration, TCP/JSON communication, system and PCB design, and a SwiftUI iPhone interface. The architecture preserves the host platform’s independent usability rather than making the add-on a single point of failure.

Key capabilities

What the project includes

  • Raspberry Pi service architecture
  • Python service boundary for sensors and rangefinder integration
  • Live Pi-to-iPhone TCP/JSON communication
  • Configuration, calibration, and telemetry display behavior
  • Embedded sensor and power integration planning
  • PCB and system design coordination

My role

Product, systems, integration, and delivery ownership

I define the product and system requirements, coordinate hardware and software architecture, design calibration and control behavior, integrate and test the Raspberry Pi and iPhone communication path, and coordinate sensor, power, PCB, enclosure, and software requirements as one system.

Technologies / methods

Tools and approaches used

  • Raspberry Pi
  • Python
  • Swift
  • SwiftUI
  • TCP / JSON
  • Embedded sensors
  • PCB / system design
  • Hardware-software integration

Development process

AI-assisted, critically evaluated, and tested

ASTM is developed as an integrated prototype rather than as isolated software. AI-assisted engineering supports architecture, implementation, debugging, documentation, and analysis; hardware behavior and live device communication are validated against the physical system.

Result

Current project status

Prototype communication between the Raspberry Pi service and iPhone application has been validated with live device connectivity, while final component and PCB work continues.
